Costa Rica Surf Camp

Costa Rica surf camp information.

Costa rica surfing has been a big deal for decades. Costa rica itself is called the “rich coast” and has a great abundance of large breaks and amazing beauty that is all-natural. This makes Costa Rica at hot spot for surfers from around the world.

Compared to its surrounding countries, Costa Rica is relatively safe and offers everything required for a stellar surf camp.

The country is very popular and attracts crowds during the peak times of the year. Costa rica surf camps will take you to the best surfing locations on both sides of the country. Be aware that poor roads are abundant - the benefit is that fewer tourists are around, making surfing locations uncrowded.

Caribbean Coast - the east coast of Costa Rica has a less reliable surfing season because it’s only around for a few months each year. Other times during the year tropical storms make things impossible to stay on top of your board (ie it’s just plain un-safe). The best season for the Costa Rica Caribbean coast is during the hot season: October through April.

North Pacific Coast: The waves on this coast don’t get nearly as high as those during the high season over at the Caribbean coast. However, the waves are relatively uniform and make successful surfing camp times easier to predict. The best times to surf on this coast are from March to mid-December. The dry season from late November through early March is okay too.

The tempurature of the water doesn’t change much on either side of Costa Rica - it’s usually about 80 degrees fahrenheit. It’s always smart to use plenty of sunscreen.
